Just because you asked…
Next week, March 17-20, 2014 the supply chain conference, MODEX, will be occurring in Atlanta, Georgia. One of the biggest questions on everyone’s minds at the conference will be the industry initiative, “Roadmap for Material Handling & Logistics.” The leading light of the proposal, Material Handling Industry of America (MHI), is trying to identify key trends that will affect the industry from now until 2025. Forklift manufacturers are creating some of the most sophisticated machines ever seen in the marketplace. Material Handlers are being required to know more and more intricate supply chain industry systems.
When interviewed for “DC Velocity” on February 19, 2014, about trends in the supply chain industry, former CEO of Walmart, Lee Scott replied, “You have to ask yourself: How are you going to staff that [Distribution Center] with people who are able to handle that level of sophistication? What are you going to do about creating the educational programs in your own DC so that these people are prepared to do these things? To me, that is going to be the greatest challenge of all.”
